Tips for coping with stress

Ways you can help yourself:

  • Seek support from a family member or friend
  • Give yourself permission to react, physically and emotionally
  • Keep your life as routine as possible
  • Take part in a mix of physical and relaxation exercises to counter physical reactions to stress
  • Avoid alcohol and drug use
  • Eat regularly; minimize your intake of sugars and caffeine
  • Take time to take care of you
  • Treat yourself with compassion
  • Seek professional help—BAYADA can offer you an initial support session with a trained counselor

Ways your loved ones can help you:

  • Avoid expressions like, “everything will be okay” or “this is fate”
  • Don’t take anger or reactions personally
  • Give time and space to work out feelings
  • Encourage self-care
  • Offer sincere sorrow
  • Help with everyday tasks, such as cooking and cleaning
  • Encourage seeking professional help if symptoms do not lessen within a few weeks
