Frequently Asked Questions about caring for your child in school:

Q.  Can the nurse assist my child with schoolwork and homework?

A.  Yes, our nurses are able to assist with both schoolwork and homework as long as it is part of the plan of care and the work is appropriate for your child’s ability.

Q.  Does the nurse sit with my child in the classroom?

A.  Yes, if it is necessary and facilitates learning for your child. However, depending on your child’s needs, the nurse may sit elsewhere in the classroom, but always able to see your child.

Q.  What does the nurse wear to school?

A.  Our nurses can wear nursing scrubs or casual clothing; it is your preference.

Q.  What does the nurse do while my child is socializing or interacting with others?

A.  We understand that all children - including those with special needs - should be able to enjoy social interactions with other classmates. Although our nurses and home health aides strive to give each child a sense of independence when socializing, they will always consider your child’s safety first when determining their appropriate level of involvement in each situation.

Q.  Can someone from BAYADA participate in school meetings?

A.  A BAYADA Clinical Manager is available to participate in meetings and collaborate with you and the school team to establish an Individual Education Program (IEP) that is right for your child.

BAYADA Pediatrics nurses are also available to support school districts by acting as a school nurse or substitute school nurse.
