Empowering Children with Autism Through ABA Therapy Services

BAYADA’s highly trained team of applied behavior analysis (ABA) specialists use compassionate, evidence-based techniques to help children with autism and intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) build essential life skills, improve communication, and foster independence. ABA is effective because it reduces the challenging behaviors that often stand in the way of meaningful progress. Every plan is unique to each child’s ability and goals, and delivered one-on-one where it’s most needed—at home, in school, or in our centers. From the very start, we partner closely with your whole family—guiding, coaching, and celebrating the big and small wins along the way.

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is an evidence-based treatment for autism spectrum disorder (ASD). ABA uses behavioral learning principles to help neurodivergent individuals develop essential life skills. Proven to improve social, behavioral, and self-help skills in children, ABA is the gold standard of care.

Our team of Board Certified Behavior Analysts® (BCBA), Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analysts® (BCaBA), and Registered Behavior Technicians® (RBT) employ a family-centered approach, working with children on improving a variety of skills and behaviors.

Communication skills
Structured techniques and positive reinforcement encourage verbal and nonverbal expression.

Daily living skills
Targeted interventions promote independence in tasks such as self-care, hygiene, and routine activities.

Play skills
Using proven methods to teach play skills to encourage imaginative play, turn-taking, and positive engagement with toys and peers.

Independence and self-advocacy
With proven therapies, our team empowers clients to navigate daily challenges, problem solve, and advocate for their own needs.

Social engagement
Skills training promotes the ability to understand social cues, develop friendships, and participate meaningfully in social activities

BAYADA’s ABA specialists use a variety of proven teaching principles and methods to fully customize the best learning experience for each child.

ABC Learning Principles
By understanding ABA’s ABC learning principles, therapists encourage meaningful behavior change:

  • Antecedent – What comes before the behavior.

  • Behavior – An observable and measurable action.

  • Consequence – What happens after a behavior and affects the likelihood of that behavior occurring again in the future.

Errorless Teaching
Errorless teaching prevents children from making mistakes as they learn a new skill by prompting (and thus ensuring) children make the correct response immediately. Through play-based repetition, prompts slowly fade to promote learning accuracy with the least frustration and errors.

Visual Supports
Visual supports can be photographs, drawings, objects, written words, or lists, and may be used to communicate with a child who has difficulty understanding or using language.

Verbal Behavior Therapy
Verbal behavior therapy helps children connect verbal words to their purpose and demonstrates how words can help get desired objects or results. Through verbal behavior therapy, children learn language skills and develop their communication abilities.

Discrete Trial Teaching (DTT)
Discrete trial teaching is a method of teaching in simplified and structured steps. Instead of teaching an entire skill in one go, the skill is broken down and built up using discrete trials that teach each step one at a time.

Natural Environment Teaching (NET)
Natural environment teaching focuses on naturalistic learning through play or learning in the natural setting. (This means teaching isn’t just occurring at a desk or table located in a therapy room, but in a variety of environmental settings.)

Pivotal Response Treatment
Instead of working on one specific behavior, pivotal response treatment is a play-based therapy intervention that holistically targets pivotal areas of a child’s development. Pivotal areas include motivation, response to multiple cues, self-management, and initiation of social interactions.

Practical Functional Assessment (PFA) and Skill-Based Treatment (SBT)
While some problematic behavior is normal for children, caregivers are understandably concerned when challenging behaviors involve self-injury, aggression, or property destruction. In such instances, a Practical Functional Assessment (PFA) is used to inform a Skill-Based Treatment (SBT) plan. Skill-Based Treatment consists of progressively teaching communication, tolerance for frustration, and a range of Contextually Appropriate Behaviors (CAB). Skill-Based Treatment has two primary objectives. First, to teach children how to behave safely and productively despite the common ambiguities, unpredictability, and disappointments in everyday life. Second, to establish strong, trusting relationships between the child and their parental caregivers.

We offer flexible solutions to fit your family’s needs and preferences so your child can learn, grow, and thrive. We can provide ABA therapy at one of our dedicated centers, at your child’s school, or in the privacy of your home or a combination of these locations.

Center-Based ABA therapy
We offer center-based services at our locations in New Jersey and Hawaii. Our centers are focused on tools for nurturing skill-building, creativity, and play-based learning.

In-School ABA therapy
We coordinate care with school teams by contracting with many locations to offer school-based ABA services. BAYADA can provide a Registered Behavior Technician® (RBT®), Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA), and paraprofessional services for students with developmental delay, developmental disability, or behaviors impacting their learning ability.

In-Home ABA therapy
Home is someone’s first learning environment, and some families prefer this continued focus for care. We can offer home-based or community-based services to work on a client’s goals at a specific location, like the comfort of a living room.

FAQs

Everything you need to know about eligibility, enrollment, and coverage—so you can focus on what matters most.

Call BAYADA and a compassionate team member will guide you through the process of determining eligibility. Alternatively, you may request services through your child’s health plan, which may reach out to BAYADA on your behalf.

We can work with your child’s doctor to obtain a referral, confirming a diagnosis of autism, if you do not yet have one. We will also check your insurance eligibility and ensure that your family resides within a geographic area that BAYADA Behavioral Health serves.

Once all eligibility requirements are met, we will then match you to a BCBA® who will work with you and your family to assess your loved one's needs to develop an individualized plan of treatment.

BAYADA will help you navigate your options by working directly with your insurance provider to determine eligibility for benefits.

It is likely that services for individuals with autism will be covered by a medical insurance provider, Medicaid, or TRICARE. Coverage for autism and ABA therapy varies on a state-by-state basis.

Private pay is also accepted.

Committed to Clinical Excellence and Ethical Practice

BAYADA is a member of the Council of Autism Service Providers (CASP)—an organization dedicated to shaping high-quality and ethical standards in ABA services nationwide.

We also share and encourage families to use TheSpectrum.org, CASP’s new education hub created for parents and caregivers of children ages 0–5 who have recently received an autism diagnosis. The site provides research-backed information on autism and ABA, along with supportive tools to navigate early decisions in care.
