Why This Matters

  • More stable reimbursement would help providers invest in their workforce, care quality, and access to home-based care.

  • Long-term payment predictability is critical for sustaining services and meeting growing patient demand.

  • Targeted oversight helps protect program integrity without limiting access to care or burdening compliant providers.

Home Health Care News ‘Sorely Needed’ Home Health Leaders Weigh Relief, Lingering Risks In Proposed Payment Rule

A more balanced outlook for home health reimbursement

CMS' proposed 2027 home health payment rule signals a more balanced approach to reimbursement, providing a long-awaited 2.4% payment increase, the first since 2022, while leaving some uncertainty around future payment adjustments. Justin Searle, BAYADA's President of Home Health, emphasized that more stable reimbursement supports continued investment in BAYADA's workforce, clinical quality, and care transitions, while noting that long-term payment predictability remains critical to expanding access to home-based care.

“Any improvement in reimbursement helps us keep investing in our workforce, clinical excellence, and the care transitions that are essential to recovery at home. But when reimbursement is difficult to predict, long-term planning becomes more challenging, especially for providers caring for higher-acuity patients and working to expand access. We are also interested to see how the proposed palliative care changes evolve and will continue evaluating the opportunities they may create.”
