For children with advanced medical needs coming home from the NICU or PICU, our innovative Home Intensive Care Unit (HICU®) program delivers ICU-level care right in your own home. Our specialized team of critical care nurses guides families through every step—starting with a safe hospital-to-home transition—and works closely with you through hands-on coaching, guidance, and education so you’ll always feel confident and supported.

BAYADA’s innovative HICU® program brings ICU-level nursing care to children with complex needs—making safe, successful transitions from the hospital to home possible. Our highly trained, critical care nurses provide attentive 24/7 care and support for the first 12 weeks at home, while training your child’s primary care team to give ongoing care.
Many of our pediatric clients require tube feedings. As part of this care, BAYADA Nurses monitor nutrition and hydration, provide site/stoma care, manage equipment malfunctions, and advocate for dietary needs.
Nurses perform daily care and routine maintenance of gastrostomy sites, including checking for for leakage, dislodgement, or infection, reducing the risk of serious complications. They perform balloon checks, dressing changes, and coordinate with providers for timely interventions.
Following your neurologist’s instructions, our nurses provide proactive seizure care, including: continuously assessing seizure triggers, ensuring a safe environment, giving rescue medication quickly, and following up with appropriate aftercare. Their goal is to keep your child safe and minimize the impact of seizures on their daily life, inside and out of your home.
Our nurses provide expert care for children who need inhaled or nebulized medications, oxygen therapy, and full airway support.
If your child is dependent on a tracheostomy and ventilator for respiratory support, you can feel confident that our nurses have specific expertise in this area. They provide safe care by proactively managing your child’s airway through suctioning and monitoring; ensuring equipment is working properly; and preparing for emergencies. They also guide families with hands-on education for ongoing peace of mind.
Children who use BiPAP, CPAP, or other non-invasive breathing support receive careful titration and monitoring of settings and response. Nurses have expertise in managing and troubleshooting equipment and alarms to ensure your child’s respiratory safety.
Ongoing assessment of blood sugar and vital signs for children at risk for hypo- or hyperglycemia is essential to ensure safety. Our nurses follow clear protocols for early intervention and rapid response if needed.
We make sure all medications—both scheduled and as-needed—are given safely and as prescribed by their doctor. Nurses monitor for effectiveness as well as negative side effects, and teach families how to manage medications confidently.
To protect your child’s mobility—minimizing contractures and maintaining musculoskeletal health—and to support their overall development and well-being, our nurses help with therapy exercises, range-of-motion activities, and perform safe transfers.
When children are at school, on the bus, or out in the community, our nurses provide care and supervision for continued safety in the different environments outside their home. We work closely with educators and staff, helping your child maintain a sense of normalcy and participation with schoolmates and peers.

There are four considerations in confirming your child’s eligibility for in-home nursing services:
Referral:
Their doctor must make a referral confirming the necessity for complex clinical care that cannot be safely managed by untrained caregivers alone.
Location:
We must ensure that you reside within a geographic area that BAYADA Pediatrics serves.
Insurance:
We will check your child’s insurance coverage to ensure payer authorization and approvals (Medicaid, private coverage, or programs that fund pediatric private duty nursing).
Assessment:
Our clinical team will conduct an initial assessment to ensure that your child’s medical, developmental, and safety needs are within the scope of services BAYADA Pediatrics provides.
BAYADA smooths the process of getting nursing care for your child.
First step:
connect with your child’s health care provider. Ask your child’s doctor for a referral for pediatric private duty nursing services at home. Contact your local BAYADA office or email [email protected]. A friendly intake coordinator will walk you through next steps, answer questions, and gather information about your child’s needs.
Complete intake and insurance authorization. BAYADA works side-by-side with families to handle insurance approvals and paperwork, aiming to ease worries and speed up start of care.
Once services are approved, a BAYADA nurse manager assesses your child’s needs and home situation to create a nursing care plan and schedule.
A dedicated nurse manager will assemble and onboard a care team, matching experienced pediatric nurses to your child’s unique needs and family preferences.
Service begins—with ongoing support. Nursing shifts are scheduled for reliability and continuity by a dedicated client services manager. Your nurse manager will remain in contact, adjusting care plans and offering ongoing help for your family.
We accept and work with a large group of health insurance companies and other payors including:
Private and commercial insurance plans Many families use their private health insurance or employer-sponsored coverage to pay for pediatric private duty nursing services.
Medicaid and state-funded programs Medicaid is a primary payment source for medically fragile children requiring home nursing.
Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) BAYADA secures authorization through the appropriate MCO and follows the plan’s billing guidelines.
Other public assistance or special funding Some families qualify for additional funding through state and local health programs, special needs grants, or non-profit partnerships.
Self-pay or private pay Some families may elect to pay privately for services if they do not meet insurance or program eligibility.
