LNA: Betty Martin
Vermont Hospice (VTH) |
Betty’s concern and interest in how her patients feel are what makes her so talented as a caregiver. With her quiet, kind demeanor, she takes the time to get to know each of her patients so she can provide care specifically tailored to each person. For example, when Betty learned that a client with dementia loved the opera Madame Butterfly, she found the music on YouTube and played it for him. During that visit, this challenging patient allowed Betty to provide more personal care than he’d received in weeks. Betty’s gentle, intuitive nature is strongly supported by a desire to do things exactly right for her patients. Earning her the nickname “By the Book Betty,” her proactive, professional, and empathetic demeanor quickly puts patients ease. She understands that the smallest details—such as making the bed a certain way or helping a patient make their favorite peanut butter fudge—can bring energy and joy to someone’s day.

LPN: Edward Cole
Downingtown, PA Pediatrics (DOW) |
From the moment he enters their homes with his trademark smile, to the moment before he leaves for the day—and beyond—Edward is present with his young clients and their families. Many parents have expressed Ed’s and his clients’ mutual enthusiasm for each other, and the deep impact his uplifting presence has on the day-to-day lives of those to whom he provides care.
Ed’s personal experiences as a father clearly inform the way he tunes into his clients’ wants and needs. One mother, whose son has chronic autoimmune neutropenia and mild autism features, shared that Ed meets her son’s need for engagement with an authentic, playful nature that reflects how he acts with his own children. However, Ed is always the nurse first; this mother also credits Ed for helping her son avoid hospitalization for an infection simply by noticing changes in his activity levels and heart rate. The foundation of Ed’s ability to impart such amazing care is clearly love. His goal, in addition to keeping his clients healthy and safe, is to bring light, joy, and ease to every home he enters

RN: Julie Pergolizzi
Paoli, PA Pediatrics (PAO) |
Julie has been a devoted member of the PAO nursing team since 1999. She’s naturally able to connect with others, and easily forms meaningful relationships, such as the bond she forged with a client in spring 2018. Her 14-year-old client with neuroblastoma had just undergone a bone marrow transplant. She assisted him with medication management, made sure he was hydrated, and administered a nourishing breakfast through his gastronomy tube. This client also received auto-immunotherapy every few months. Julie kept contact with the family during these hospital stays, and was always ready to employ her excellent assessment skills and clinical techniques to help him recover from the taxing treatments upon his return home. Beyond her unparalleled clinical care, Julie supported her client and his family by engaging him in stimulating activities other than video games, cleaning dirty dishes in the sink, and tidying their small apartment. Julie has a true gift for celebrating her clients, putting them and their families at ease, and doing it all with a spirit of compassion and love.

PT: Dr. John Petrides
Wilmington, DE Senior Living (WIF) |
Since 2017, John has worked nothing short of miracles with many clients at his assigned facility. Residents under his care are less likely to be hospitalized, and he is always willing to educate their caregivers on the best techniques to keep their residents safe and as independent as possible. His unwavering dedication to his clients shows in the positive outcomes he regularly helps them achieve with his kind, mild manner. One man with a severely forward-bending posture said that, after just one hour with John, he couldn’t remember feeling so good. Another woman, who was wheelchair-bound after being hospitalized twice for a broken leg, had experienced a lack of progress with attempts at rehabilitation. John provided her unwavering support and, today, this resident strides steady and strong with the help of a walker.
Her daughter was so amazed at her mother’s progress that she nominated John for the 2018 All Star Award given by the Delaware Health Care Facilities Association. John responds to all of this praise with humility; he loves what he does, and it shows in his every action.

I love what I do because…I love working for BAYADA. It's so rewarding to work for a company with the ability to make a difference in someone's life.
Key Action that most resonates with me…Be Friendly. Let our smiles be seen and felt. You make a choice every day when you get up in the morning. Why not start the day off with a smile?
If I were a flower, I would be… a Gerber Daisy because they are a thing of beauty. Big, bold and beautiful—and sometimes they need a little help standing upright, but who doesn't?
A BAYADA moment I will always remember is…Receiving the Pat Mallee Award for Compassionate Leadership. It was such a surprise and I was so honored. After the awards ceremony, I came back to my office and EVERYONE was standing at their desks applauding for me. It made me cry!
What keeps me at BAYADA…I truly do love what I do and the people I work with. The BAYADA Way helps bring together like-minded people who all want to do the right thing. It's just AMAZING!
Some of my greatest accomplishments at BAYADA include…Helping to create our amazing Information Technology division. It was just me back in 1984, and now IT has nearly 150 team members!
My hidden talent/favorite hobby/interest is…I enjoy spending time with my family. We have so much fun together! I also love the beach and jumping in the waves!
Employee Relations (EMP)
I love what I do because…It is both a vocation and a career. BAYADA has also provided to my son Trevor and daughter Katelin the example of a mission-driven employer. They now look for the same standard of dedication in those they work for and with. As a mom, this is priceless.
Key Action that most resonates with me…Work with a spirit of universal faith, hope and love. While each Key Action is important on its own, I believe this one is foundational to The BAYADA Way.
If I were a flower, I would be…A rose. When BAYADA first began to identify by flower, the Rose Division, led by Kathy Reavy, was the first one I was a part of. Roses also represent the two sides of life—both its beauty and its challenges.
A BAYADA moment I will always remember is…Mark personally greeting buses of employees as we arrived at BAYADA's 25th Anniversary Annual Awards Weekend. The fact that we were in Disney World was secondary.
What keeps me at BAYADA …The BAYADA Way, both the words, and the way they are acted out in the company.
Some of my greatest accomplishments at BAYADA include…In the mid-1990's, working with the University City office team to create an annual Employee Recognition Ceremony program for our HHAs—the first within our company to applaud field staff. In 2013, the Employee Recognition Ceremony expanded to a red-carpet event honoring HHAs throughout the division. Hundreds of HHAs have received well-deserved recognition through this program.
My hidden talent/favorite hobby/interest is…What I love about life today is being "Nana" and spending time with my grandchildren and their parents.

I love what I do because…BAYADA genuinely cares about the people who receive our services, the field staff, and all who work in the offices. The people I work with are passionate about what they do. Because of this, I can see beyond a rough day or an unexpected twist.
Key action that most resonates with me is…Demonstrating honesty, commitment, and loyalty to our clients and families and our organization. Being honest with everyone is essential to building trust in any relationship whether it is with a coworker, field nurse, or client's family member.
A BAYADA moment I will always remember is…When I first started working with BAYADA, I cared for a pediatric for many years, and one day he was decannulated. This was a bittersweet moment, because I was so happy to see that he was healthy enough to no longer needed our services, but I also missed caring for him. He is now in college and it was great to see how much he's grown and how well he is doing.
What keeps me at BAYADA is…I work with incredibly supportive people who always make me laugh and get me through the day. It is the friendships I have built that make my job easier. We all work together to achieve a greater outcome for our clients and families.
Some of my greatest accomplishments at BAYADA include…Working in the field, transitioning to the position of clinical manager, and then to clinical educator. It is so rewarding to educate new nurses and introduce them to all the wonderful opportunities BAYADA has to offer.
My hidden talent/favorite hobby/interest is…I have a brown belt in karate, and I love cooking, baton twirling, spinning, and golfing.
Philadelphia, PA Field Recruiting (PFR)
Wild Lupine Division
I love what I do because...I love people I work with. They always make me feel like I am a part of a big family, the BAYADA family.
Key Action that most resonates with me...Our employees are our biggest assets.
If I were a flower, I would be...A golden rose. Twenty-something years ago, I was training the group of HHAs for the very first time. On the last day of training, they gave me a single golden rose saying, "a golden rose for a golden teacher." Since then, I've trained a lot of HHAs, but on the last day I always asked myself if I deserve a golden rose or if could have done better.
A BAYADA moment I will always remember is...When I was relatively new clinical manager, my director, Peter, said, "Ewa, I need you to teach the class next week." I replied, you need me to do what? I only had a weekend to prepare myself to teach, and I'm still surprised I didn't have a heart attack that weekend.
What keeps me at BAYADA...Is simply the love of what I am doing.
My greatest accomplishments at BAYADA include...Plenty of small accomplishments. Any time I have an opportunity to make an impact on someone's life is a great accomplishment for me. Remaining true to my values and beliefs for 25 years also makes me proud.
My hidden talents/favorite hobby/interest is…Reading, travels, movies, cooking, sawing and spending time with my family and friends.

Key action that resonates with me...Work with a universal spirit of faith, hope and love.
If I were a flower...I'd be a sunflower. They are known as "happy flowers" and symbolize loyalty and longevity.
A BAYADA moment I will always remember is...I organized a birthday party for a client who was turning 100. We invited her friends and neighbors, and the newspaper even came to celebrate with her. She loved it! It was so special.
What keeps me at BAYADA...My wonderful coworkers and director who support me every day, and of course the relationships that I have developed with my clients and field staff.
