The Road to Hollywood
The story behind the Muppets and BAYADA

Meeting the Muppets

In 1979, The Muppet Movie debuted, which made a profound impact on Mark Baiada. In the movie, Kermit the Frog is persuaded by an agent to go to Hollywood to pursue a career in the movies. Along the way, he meets a motley crew of characters with different talents, yet similar goals. They come together, resist villainous attempts to sell out to big commercial interests, and travel on Kermit’s bus to pursue their common dreams.

This struck a chord with Mark that has never stopped resonating. “We’re just like them. We started small. And we have this bigger dream of ‘going to Hollywood,’ which for us, means being the world’s most compassionate and trusted team of home health care professionals.”

Cultural significance

BAYADA is on a 5-year journey to Hollywood, where we will celebrate our 50th anniversary at the 2025 Awards Weekend.

Kermit the Frog and Muppets influenced the way Mark built the company. In The Muppet Movie, Kermit envisions stardom and sets a course to make it to Hollywood. Along the way, he meets similar-minded characters, each with varying skill sets, who share his dream. Together, they journey to Hollywood by bus, having adventures along the way, and then reach their destination and accomplish their goals.

Our early days set the course for where we are now—finding like-minded people with a passion for helping others has been the foundation of our work from the beginning.

Surround yourself with people who share your passion and you can do amazing things together.

Dream and think big.

Take ownership of their mission and do whatever it takes to achieve our shared goals.

Help each other along the way and respect individual contributions; operate as a team of individuals rather than individuals within a team.

Examples of our culture of recognition/gratitude; continuous improvement; celebrating success; all-hands-on-deck; and doing the right thing permeate the movie.
